Yesterday, in a dedicated event, all the fans of Halo they could have a look at the campaign for the next title in the series, Halo Infinite. At the same time, up Halo Waypoint, 343 Industries also recalled that they will soon close the Xbox 360 servers of various titles in the series.
The initial intention of the software house was to close them in December, but everything has been postponed by a month. Here are the titles concerned:
- Halo 3
- Halo 3: ODST
- Halo Reach
- Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
- Halo Wars
- Halo: Spartan Assault
The servers will shut down exactly the January 13 2022. From that day on, online matchmaking will be disabled and, of course, this also includes running games in backward compatibility on Xbox One or Series X / S.
This was done to better focus on the future of the series. We remember in fact that the servers of the Master Chief Collection will not be affected by this decision and juggle Halo Infinite and MCC while keeping the online services of several legacy Halo titles open "It requires significant time and resources, which have a direct impact on the studio's ability to support current and future projects such as The Master Chief Collection and Infinite."
