Presented during the 2018 Blizzcon, Diablo Immortal has made so much talk about himself (in negative) and then disappear from the radar. It is time to return to the subject Adam Fletcher on Twitter that, responding to a user who complained about the absence of news, he replied.
Immortal is still in development. Alpha comes before Beta.
Games take a while and schedules always vary by when the public hears of its announcement, team size, scope, vision and more. It will be ready when it's ready. The team is doing a stellar job on the work with the game.

“Immortal is still under development. Alpha comes before Beta.
The games take some time and the initial plans, the team, the vision and more can change from the time of the announcement. It will be ready when it is ready. The team is doing stellar work on the game. "
The Alpha version was actually expected for this 2020, but to date nothing is known about it. Times probably lengthened further because of Covid-19, but who knows if the many complaints did not push Activision Blizzard to change plans.
