Blade Runner, Tron, Star Trek, Aliens, just some of the projects that Syd Mead has worked on during his long and thriving career. Having retired in September 2019, the legendary artist has left an indelible mark in the field of cinema and, more generally, in that of art, making himself known thanks to his works on Gundam. In addition to being primarily known for his works as a concept artist, however, Mead was a futurist and a corporate artist. Working for companies like Philips, Ford and Unitated States Steel, often giving his very particular and clear vision of the future.
Incredible how, after years, Syd Mead's works are still fresh and very current today, going to influence the video-playful media, directly (the series CyberRace) but also indirectly (the saga of Mass Effect owes a lot to his style).
Last night Mead died of some complications related to his lymphoma.
