Google Stadia as many know, is the cloud gaming service offered by Google coming in November, but what would happen if it were to close?
By now we are used to downloading our games directly into the memory of our Playstation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch, but with Stadia all our games remain loaded directly on servers. What would happen if the cloud gaming service was closed?
The director of product, Andrey Doronichev, answers that during a session AMA on Reddit, explains how this question was addressed numerous times to the development team, a team that perfectly understands the fear of players towards the cloud.
"I can hear you. Moving to the cloud is scary " says Doronichev "I felt the same way when the music moved from files to streaming. I still have my old CDs in the garage ... but it's hard to find a CD player these days 🙂 "
Doronichev goes on to talk about how even our photos, videos and documents now rely on the cloud and this is no different for games. "Sooner or later, all our games will be saved in the cloud in turn and it makes us feel great."
During the AMA session, we discover that stadia will have a called function "Takeout". This feature allows players to download their game's metadata, including saves. Unfortunately the takedown function does not allow you to download the titles we use and this results in the inability to play if the service does not work.
"Of course, it is right to doubt my words" says Doronichev. "There is nothing I can say now to change your mind if you don't want to, but what we can do is launch the service and continue to invest in it for years to come. Just like we did with gMail, Docs, Music, Movies and photos: this is exactly what we are committed to “.
Google Stadia is expected in November, the subscription will cost 10 euros per month and will allow the use of a growing video game library. For those who want to subscribe to the Founder's Edition, the cost is 130 $ and includes the Google controller, a Chromecast Ultra, 3 months of Stadia Pro, a copy of Destiny 2 with all the expansions and other extras.
What do you think of Doronichev's words? Do you feel safe with the cloud or do you prefer to download the old-fashioned games? In the meantime, you know that i video game costs will not go down with Stadia?
