We have often talked about the addiction to video games and many have expressed themselves on this issue. Among these also includes theWorld Health Organization which, after so many discussions, has officially recognized this disorder like a real illness.

The decision was taken yesterday during the seventy-second World Health Assembly and these are the symptoms listed by the WHO to recognize the gaming disorder:

  • Inability to control gaming activity (intensity, duration, ability to conclude, context).
  • Give priority to video games to the point of putting them ahead of other interests and daily activities.
  • Continuation of the activity regardless of negative consequences, to the point of resulting in personality disorders, family, social, educational and employment problems.

Video game addiction is certainly a delicate subject to deal with; I wonder if this decision will lead to others consequences in the medical, social and political fields.
