During the event X018 of yesterday, microsoft announced that it is ready to acquire two renowned independent role-playing game developers.
First of these is Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas, i Pillars of Eternity e Knights of the Old Republic 2).
The acquisition of Obsidian by Microsoft was already rumored by a month and has not surprised too much. The biggest surprise came at the announcement of the second acquisition, that of inXile Entertainment, creators of Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera.
The news goes to confirm the willingness of Microsoft to expand the portfolio of developers in its video game division. In the summer it was revealed the acquisition of Ninja Theory, creators of Hellblade, who have joined Compulsion Games, Playground Games and Undead Labs within Microsoft Studios.
During the X018 event the Redmond company said that these new purchases "will continue to operate independently and will offer their best talents, their intellectual properties and their experience at Microsoft Studios, in order to create new RPGs for our players and fan".
The vice president of Microsoft Studios, Matt Booty, added that these agreements are part of the company's plans to "deliver new content to new platforms and services like the Xbox Game Pass, and create exclusive new ones that will make new players real Xbox fans".
Following the announcement, both Obsidian and inXile have released videos on YouTube where they show the opportunities that these new agreements will be able to offer.
